Some interesting takeaways:

(1) We teach the wrong type of math in high school, we ought to teach them probability. Professor Thaler “I would teach kids how to gamble” to use as a mechanism of mathematics and probabilistic reasoning

(2) Professor Ratcliffe “there is a molecular pathway” inside the human system that tells the cells and tissues in the body whether they are getting enough oxygen” i.e. you can take a pill to trick your body thinking you are in high altitude and thereby, produce more red blood cells and vice versa (certain cancer cells needs oxygen to survive)

(3) Aim for curiosity – aim for high failure rate but also mindful they are the progeny of luck and so talent. It is their passion for experimentation that carry them throw failure.

(4) “The greatest enemy of knowledge is not ignorance, it is the illusion of knowledge.” “There is a cult of ignorance in the United States, and there has always been. The strain of anti-intellectualism has been a constant thread winding its way through our political and cultural life, nurtured by the false notion that democracy means that ‘my ignorance is just as good as your knowledge.”

(4) Professor Rainer Weiss on dedicating your life to something shouldn’t be for an award or recognition, but for the sheer pleasure of working on it or better yet “having fun with it”. Although not important, the recognition follows later for others that see your vision as you saw it when you first started working on your pursuit.

(5) If you write a novel and it´s read by a 100,000 readers, you´re really writing a 100,000 novels” that’s also why movie (made from book) is rarely as good as the book since that’s a linear interpretation
(6) you need to write things down, writing is thinking twice, teaching is thinking thrice.

(7) 31:02 2017 Nobel Minds mark – Professor Kip Thorne – explanation of black hole and relativity of time…need to rewatch a few times to get your brains to rewire. Interstellar is science “faction”

(8) importance of science “Professor Rainer Weiss “we as scientist have the job to make our work more intelligeniable to people. you also have to talk to high school and grad school kids”. Professor Richard Henderson “scientists have to be slight optimist” one cannot work for 50 years to figure out gravitational waves without being an optimist
